The book \u00abThe Greek Revolution of 1821 in Moldavia and Wallachia\u00bb by Professor Tudor Dinu of the University of Bucharest comes to fill a significant gap in both Romanian and Greek historiography, as it is the first monograph worldwide dedicated to the conduct of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Moldavia and Wallachia.<\/div><\/div>
It was compiled based on all primary sources of the era, regardless of language (Romanian, Greek, Turkish, Russian, German, French), and it is worth noting that it represents, without passions or nationalist agendas, the epic of the struggle in the Danubian Principalities, pointing out each time the conflicting interests of the warring sides.<\/div><\/div>
Although it is a purely scientific treatise, it is distinguished by its narrative vividness, reminiscent of an adventure novel that keeps the reader’s interest undiminished until the end. At the same time, it also has a ‘cinematic’ character, as it is accompanied by hundreds of snapshots from about eighty locations in the Romanian Lands, where episodes of the Revolution took place. <\/div><\/div>
The book received rave reviews from experts and was named the historical bestseller of the year 2022 in Romania.<\/div><\/div>
Tudor Dinu has also published two successful historical albums in Greece: The Phanariots in Wallachia and Moldavia (Porphyra Publications, Athens Academy Award 2018) and Fashion and Luxury in Wallachia during the Greek Revolution (Akritas Publications), as well as the fascinating book The Baths of the Romans in the Danubian Principalities: An Illustrated History of the Baths of Moldo-Wallachia (Proti Yli Publications, 2025). <\/div><\/div>
\"\ud83d\udc49\"<\/span> TUDOR DINU (b. 1978) is a tenured professor of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Bucharest and an honorary doctor of the Democritus University of Thrace. He has given lectures and taught courses as a visiting professor at the Universities of Athens (Kapodistrian and Harokopio), Thessaloniki (Macedonia), Thrace, Cyprus, Brussels, Berlin, Hamburg, Lund, Krakow, Brno, Bratislava, Sofia, Plovdiv, Chi\u0219in\u0103u, and Kyiv, as well as at cultural institutions and societies in Greece (Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kozani, Lefkada, etc.), Italy, Egypt, and Turkey. In recent years, he has participated in major international conferences of Modern Greek Studies (Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Patras, Chania, Sitia, Chios, Paros, Komotini, Nicosia, Paris, Vienna, Granada, Lund, Veliko Tarnovo, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tbilisi). <\/div><\/div>
In 2014 he was elected and in 2018 and 2023 re-elected Secretary General of the European Society of Modern Greek Studies. His writings devoted to topics of Byzantine and Modern Greek philology, history and culture, as well as to the Hellenism of the Danubian Principalities, have been published in Romania, Greece, Cyprus, France, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Ukraine, and Georgia. Also, Tudor Dinu has translated into Romanian works of both ancient (Aristophanes, Plutarch, Iamblichus, Seneca, Pliny the Elder) and modern (Yannis Ritsos, Nikos Engonopoulos, Andreas Embirikos, Christos Yannaras, etc.) authors. He is the editor of the series Neograeca Bucurestiensia. <\/div><\/div>
