The VITZENSOS KORNAROS Cultural Center seeks to contribute to the organization of activities and events by third parties that serve purposes aligned with its vision and have the potential to elevate Sitia on the contemporary cultural map.
It aims to promote musical adaptations, theatrical performances, and visual representations of Erotokritos in Sitia, and to support scholarly studies and conferences on the work of Kornaros and the Cretan Renaissance. In this context, it provides financial support for selected projects and events.
Micrographia, the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Sitia, and the Vitsentzou Kornaros Cultural Center have joined forces to present this performance, which is part of the Crete Festival as an event dedicated to women titled “Women Meet the Crete Festival.”
“Upgrade Your Way of Thinking” was the theme of TEDx Sitia, which took place in the city for the second year in a row, featuring a diverse lineup of speakers, at the Hellenic Mediterranean University.
At the Venetian Fortress of Kazarma in Sitia, the tango operetta “María de Buenos Aires” by the great composer Astor Piazzolla was performed, with a libretto by Horacio Ferrer, featuring an ensemble of young musicians under the musical direction of Yannis Protopapas.
The city of Sitia is home to a remarkable Folklore Museum with interesting exhibits dating from the previous century and the early part of this century, which provide a vivid picture of the traditional way of life of Sitia’s residents.
The Hamezi Festival was held for the first time in July 2023. It was an initiative of the Hamezi Cultural Center, featuring music lessons, dance classes, a weaving workshop, a natural dyes workshop, and public events.
A three-day carnival featuring the “White Night” event organized by the Sitia Chamber of Commerce, street parties, and culminating in the grand carnival parade.
Panagiotis Koufakis from the Sitia General Lyceum participated in the 4th Balkan Physics Olympiad, held in Nicosia, and received an honorable mention.
Sponsor of the 14th Sitia Treasure Hunt, organized by the city’s teams.
An event dedicated to Stratis Kalogeridis, held at the Kazarma Fortress in Sitia, with orchestration and direction by Yannis Protopappas.
