Who we are
The VITZENSOS KORNAROS Cultural Center, based in Sitia, was founded in 2020 in the poet’s hometown as a cultural center. The idea arose from the need to study and highlight the importance and relevance of Vitsentzou Kornaros’ Erotokritos and, more generally, the Cretan Renaissance.
The timeless influence of Erotokritos inspired the vision of various educational and cultural activities and events, with the ambition of making Stegi a place for meeting, collaboration, creation, education, and entertainment.

Supporting Stegi
In the spirit of Stegi, anyone who is able and willing to contribute, whether they live in Sitia or not, is invited to participate as a “Friend of Stegi.” The statutes also provide for honorary members, in order to honor people who have distinguished themselves through their relevant knowledge and work and wish to help the work of the Shelter.
Stegi hopes to work closely with institutions such as the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Sitia, Greek and foreign universities, and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lasithi. We wish to continue previous related efforts, such as events, conferences, and publications.
