Contests
The VITZENTZOS KORNAROS Cultural Centre, with the aim, among other things, of studying and promoting the work of the poet of *Erotokritos*, organizes the annual Pan-Cretan student competition “Vitzentzos Kornaros” in the following categories: POETRY and SHORT STORY.
Vitsentzou Kornaros’s Erotokritos, an iconic work of the Cretan Renaissance and an integral part of the European poetic tradition, continues to this day to be a source of inspiration and creativity. Friendship, trust, brotherly devotion, love, commitment to the idea of self-determination, the concept of honor and personal dignity, and romance are some of the themes that are harmoniously interwoven in Erotokritos and embody the spirit and style of the Renaissance era. These themes, on which the students’ creative work will focus, are refined and adapted each year.
The contest consists of two categories: Poetry and Short Story, and is open to students at secondary schools in Crete. The contest awards are presented at a special ceremony.
