Vitsentzos Kornaros’s Erotokritos, an emblematic work of the Cretan Renaissance and an integral part of the European poetic tradition, continues to be a source of inspiration and creation to this day.
Concepts such as friendship, trust, devotion, love, commitment to the idea of self-determination, virtue, the notion of honor and personal dignity, the power of words, and passion are some of the themes that are harmoniously intertwined within Erotokritos and compose the spirit and style of the Renaissance era.
In this year’s competition, students are invited to freely compose an original literary work in the form of a poem or short story, inspired by the values and ideas contained in the work Erotokritos.
