International Conference 2022

Stegi Vitsentzos Kornaros is organizing an international conference titled: The Nature of Things: From the Genesis to the Dissemination and Reception of Erotokritos. This academic gathering, the third in a series of conferences on the general theme of Issues of Poetics and Reception of Erotokritos, will take place in Sitia from July 22 to 24, 2022, with participants attending in person.

The conference will focus on issues concerning, on the one hand, the literary nature of Erotokritos as evidenced by the poet’s polyphonic dialogue with European literature, shaped under the influence of the Greco-Roman tradition during the early modern period; and, on the other hand, the influence of the Cretan Renaissance and Erotokritos in cultural contexts where Kornaros’s poem and Greek education played a dominant role in forging the modern Greek identity from the 18th century to the present day.
