International Conference 2025

Stegi VITZENSOS KORNAROS is organizing an international academic conference titled: With Knowledge and Style: Issues of Poetics and Reception of Erotokritos. This meeting, the fourth in a series of specialized conferences focusing on the genesis and literary nature of Erotokritos and closely tracking its trajectory and influence on literature, the fine arts, and the folk traditions of our region, will take place in Sitia from July 18 to 20, 2025, with participants attending in person.

The conference will focus on issues of literary interest concerning Erotokritos and the poetic art of Vitsentzou Kornaros, as these are reflected in the poet’s dialogue with Greek and European literature, shaped under the influence of the Greco-Roman tradition during the early modern period; evidence will also be sought of the influence of the Cretan Renaissance and Erotokritos in cultural contexts and among creators where Kornaros’s poem and Greek education played a dominant role in the formation and forging of our identity , from the 18th century to the present day.
