On Sunday, November 2, the first official meeting of the winter season of the Stegi VITSENTZOS KORNAROS Book Club took place. Old and new members exchanged impressions on Giannis Xanthoulis’ latest book, The Fall of Athens by the Gargara Sisters (Dioptra Publications). The year 1959 and the decade of the 60s with its significant events, the desire of provincial teenagers to escape to big cities, specifically to Athens which seemed magical in their eyes, the daily life and personal impasses of the characters, presented with a satirical style but also with feelings of sympathy by the author, were some of the topics discussed.
The book chosen by the members for the upcoming meeting (December 7) is The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoevsky.Happy reading year!!!
