“An Evening with Dimitris Sgouros”

✳︎ The VITSENTZOS KORNAROS Cultural Center invites you to a special musical evening where Dimitris Sgouros will present a program of authentic Cretan music and songs. Songs from his discography, as well as selected traditional Cretan songs, highlight the richness, power, and beauty of the Cretan soul, delivered with his unique personal style, virtuosity, and passion. Sgouros’s music is deeply imbued with the color of Eastern Crete, his birthplace. Continuing the path forged by Kirlibas and Dermitzogiannis, he insists on using not only the lyra but also the lyraki, which was widely used in the past but had faded in our days. Thus, he has decisively contributed to its dissemination and increasingly widespread use by younger lyra players.

✳︎ He is accompanied by excellent musicians, with whom he has collaborated for years and shares a strong and true friendship: Dimitris Sideris and Manolis Pagkalos on lutes, and Giannis Papatzanis on percussion.
