Thanasis Lalas has dedicated a significant part of his creative journey to the art of conversation. At times, he meets face-to-face with important personalities of our era, seeking the person behind their work and fame. At other times, through his books, he mentally converses with great figures, creating imaginary interviews where knowledge, research, and literary imagination converge.
Dialogue is the air that breathes oxygen into our curiosity.
What happens when a question meets a person who has dedicated their life to seeking answers? How is an idea born that changes the way we see the world? How much doubt, how many failures, and how much persistence are hidden behind a great work?
Through his real interviews and imaginary conversations, Thanasis Lalas narrates a journey of encounters with people from art, science, thought, and public life. Individuals who dared to question the obvious, to trust their curiosity, and to give form to something that previously seemed impossible.
At the heart of these conversations is the person behind the achievement: their initial questions, fears, contradictions, and the encounters that shaped them. The moments when they had to persevere without any certainty of vindication. This is where personal experience illuminates a question that concerns us all: what can we do with the capabilities we possess?
For Thanasis Lalas, these conversations are a living act of discovery. The question opens a path, and the answer can lead somewhere neither interlocutor had anticipated. It requires attention, trust, and a willingness to listen even to that which might challenge one’s beliefs.
In an era where answers multiply rapidly, the value of a meaningful question becomes even greater. Dialogue gives us time to pause, to understand, to see through the experience of others what our own lives have not yet taught us.
Exceptional people interest us also for their ability to keep their questions open. By conversing with them, we discover that creation often begins with a simple query that someone refused to abandon.
Because as long as we have something to ask and someone to listen to, the world remains open.
