✳︎ Asteris Varveris and Eirini Zogali have been collaborating as a duo for six years. This formation started with a purely Rebetiko repertoire, then continued by exploring several traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean with different instruments. From guitar to laouto and from bouzouki to oud, Asteris and Eirini find a way to perform music with which they resonate, with Rebetiko always being the most important starting point.
✳︎ASTERIS VARVERIS was born in Naousa, Imathia. He began his musical journey at the age of 8, learning the guitar. Later, he turned to classical guitar, taking lessons with the acclaimed guitarist and teacher Thanos Mitsalas. Concurrently, he studied modern harmony and engaged with electric guitar and blues rock. With his dedication to music, he completed his degree in the Department of Greek Traditional Music at the University of Macedonia, performing guitar and laouto. He has participated in various concerts and musical performances, playing and performing with different bands and ensembles in Greece and abroad. He continued his postgraduate studies at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam.
✳︎EIRINI ZOGALI was born in 1997 in Corinth. Her relationship with music began at the age of 7 with classical guitar. This first contact led her to take exams and enter the music school in her city, from which she graduated in 2015 with a new instrument in hand, the bouzouki. The bouzouki was the musical bridge that helped her approach traditional Greek music, especially Rebetiko. In 2016, she continued her music studies in Thessaloniki, from which she graduated specializing in the three-string bouzouki. Moving to Thessaloniki was crucial for her musical career due to the variety of genres coexisting in the city. During her studies there, she discovered the oud, an instrument that quickly became very important to her. In 2019, she was accepted into the Erasmus program at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, where she studied the oud in depth and also experimented with the bouzouki. After completing her undergraduate studies, she continued her academic career at Codarts, from which she graduated specializing in the oud in 2023. Throughout these years, she had the opportunity to participate in various projects and concerts in Greece and abroad.
