The two-day festive events titled “Sitia Celebrates Its Poet,” dedicated to the birthday anniversary of Vitsentzos Kornaros, organized by the VITSENTZOS KORNAROS SHELTER and the Sitia Municipality (March 27-28, 2026), were successfully completed.
The culmination of the events took place last night at the Sitia Municipality Multicenter, in a packed venue, where the audience had the opportunity to experience a particularly moving and high-level cultural evening.
The event opened with the Sitia Municipality Philharmonic Orchestra, which entered the venue performing musical themes from “Erotokritos.”
Particularly moving were the memories shared by four former students of the distinguished Professor David Holton, who had supervised their doctoral dissertations. Their testimonies highlighted both the scientific work and the human side of the honoree.
The Mayor of Sitia, Mr. Giorgos Zervakis, bestowed upon David Holton the title of honorary citizen, honoring his significant contribution to the study and promotion of Kornaros’ work and Cretan literature.
The evening culminated with the exceptional theatrical performance “Arethousa and Erotokritos,” directed by Thodoris Gkonis, which captivated the audience.
