OPENING of the painting exhibition “My Universe” by Popi Karteri-Mizeraki with a speech by Professor Emeritus of Physics – Astrophysics at the University of Heraklion, Nikolaos Kylafis

Exhibition duration: 28/05 – 06/06 2025
Hours: 19:00-21:00

Popi Karteri-Mizeraki’s paintings depict planets, stars, nebulae, and orbits – not as cold scientific diagrams, but as living carriers of emotions and existential reflections. The universe, through her eyes, becomes a mirror of her personal world: infinite and colorful, bright and mysterious. The exhibition is an invitation to look up – but also within ourselves.

** ”My close relationship with the sky and the stars began in my childhood, when I would leave the small town of Sitia and go to the village. There, there was no electric light, but there was a sky full of millions of twinkling stars that left me ecstatic. Many years had to pass since then, and during that time I painted the alleys of my village and all the beautiful corners of Crete. But the time came when my childhood sky also demanded its depiction. Two distinguished scientists, George Grammatikakis and Dionysis Simopoulos, were the ones who urged me on this new artistic journey. I came face to face with galaxies, nebulae, planets, and I tried with the power of my heart to create a new sky whose stars would resemble precious jewels. I delved into the infinite Universe, shaping ‘My Universe,’ and I reveal it to you so that you too can take a journey through the colorful stars that state-of-the-art telescopes – but also the vigilant eyes of the soul – offer us.” **
