The author recalls and shares with us experiences from his childhood and youth in a cheerful, realistic manner and a contemplative mood. People, events, moments, bright paths in the world of yesterday, vivid lines in the identity of the simple Steiakos and beyond, in the century that has passed.
MANOLIS MIAOUDAKIS was born in Skordilo, Sitia. He worked as a civil engineer in Sitia, where he had a design office. As vice-president and president of the Cultural Center and deputy mayor of Sitia, he was involved in cultural issues of the municipality. Since 1992, he has written and presented 12 theatrical reviews, mainly in verse, entitled “Sitia Events,” which highlight and satirize the daily life of Sitia society yesterday and today. His short stories, articles, and poems have been published in magazines, anthologies, and newspapers, and many have won awards in Cretan competitions.
He has worked in radio and television on programs with folkloric content. His theatrical work includes a comedy-ethnography entitled “Gambros tou chaergiou” (The Groom of the Harvest). He has published four books: “Pantermi dichaloverga” (The Forked Stick), short stories. “Fylla kai ftera” (Leaves and Feathers), poetry collection. “Tis niotis ta kamomata” (The deeds of youth), short stories. “San paramythi” (Like a fairy tale), a long poem awarded first prize in the “Kostis Fragoulis” competition by the Association of Cretan Poets.
