Proceedings of the international conference “The Nature of Things: From the Genesis to the Dissemination and Reception of Erotokritos,” edited by Professor Stefanos Kaklamanis. This scientific meeting, the third in a series of conferences on issues of poetics and reception of Erotokritos, was organized by the VITSENTZOS KORNAROS Foundation and took place in Sitia from July 22 to 24, 2022, with the physical presence of the conference participants.
The conference focused on issues concerning, on the one hand, the literary nature of Erotokritos as documented through the poet’s polyphonic dialogue with European literature, shaped under the influence of the Greco-Roman tradition in the early modern period; and, on the other hand, the influence of the Cretan Renaissance and Erotokritos in cultural environments where Kornaros’ poem and Greek education played a dominant role in forging modern Greek identity from the 18th century to the present day.
